Team India began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with an impressive 29-run victory over the USA, delivering a strong statement in their title defence.
Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 161/9 in 20 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the Indian batters showed composure and ensured the team reached a defendable score.
In reply, the USA fought hard but could only manage 132/8 in 20 overs. The Indian bowlers maintained tight lines and picked up crucial wickets at key moments, never allowing the opposition to build momentum.
This win marked India’s ninth consecutive victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and also became the lowest total ever successfully defended in T20 Internationals at Wankhede Stadium.
With a disciplined all-round performance, India have started their World Cup journey on a confident note, reinforcing their status as strong contenders for the title once again.
