In a moment of historic significance marked by grief and resilience, Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as Maharashtra’s first woman Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday. The oath-taking ceremony comes just days after a tragic plane crash in Baramati that claimed the life of her husband, senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, along with four others.
Despite the personal loss, Sunetra Pawar stepped into public service at a crucial time, symbolising strength and determination in the face of adversity. The ceremony was attended by senior political leaders, officials, and dignitaries, reflecting the importance of the occasion in the state’s political history.
Earlier in the day, the 62-year-old leader was unanimously elected as the leader of the NCP Legislature Party. Following her election, she was assigned key responsibilities as Deputy Chief Minister, marking a new chapter in Maharashtra’s governance.
Her appointment is being widely seen as a milestone for women’s representation in state leadership and a powerful reminder of resilience during challenging times.
