Serious safety lapses have been alleged at the National Coaching Camp organised by the Indian Blind Sports Association (IBSA) at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Training Centre, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
During a physical training session, Sourabh, a visually impaired player from the Uttar Pradesh Goalball team, reportedly suffered a compound fracture. According to sources, the accident occurred when players were asked to run a 100-metre sprint without any safety measures or proper supervision. It is further alleged that athletes were instructed to jump forward without bending their knees—an unsafe technique, particularly dangerous for blind players who depend entirely on verbal instructions.
Concerns have also been raised over the lack of immediate medical response. Reports claim that no timely first aid or adequate assistance was provided, and the injured player was sent back home without prior information to the Uttar Pradesh State Secretary or arrangements for travel and medical support.
The incident has sparked serious questions about the professionalism of the camp, the technical competence and qualifications of the coach, and overall athlete safety standards. There are growing demands for an inquiry into the matter and for stricter safeguards to ensure that only properly trained and qualified coaches conduct physical training for visually impaired athletes at national-level camps.
