As the countdown to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 intensifies, cricket fans are revisiting the elite list of captains who have led their nations to ultimate glory in the shortest format. So far, eight different captains have etched their names in history by lifting the coveted T20 World Cup trophy.

The legendary list includes MS Dhoni (India, 2007), Younis Khan (Pakistan, 2009), Paul Collingwood (England, 2010), Darren Sammy (West Indies, 2012 & 2016), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka, 2014), Aaron Finch (Australia, 2021), Jos Buttler (England, 2022), and most recently Rohit Sharma (India, 2024).

Each of these captains showcased exceptional leadership, tactical brilliance, and composure under pressure to guide their teams to T20 supremacy.

With the 2026 edition drawing closer, the spotlight is now on India’s current skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has the opportunity to join this elite club. India’s upcoming clash against the USA will be a key step in their journey as they aim to create yet another historic chapter.

The big question remains — will a new leader rise to rewrite history?
