Goalball Federation of India Expands State Affiliation Drive to Take Goalball Across the Country

Building a Stronger Goalball Community from Cities to Rural India

The Goalball Federation of India (GFI) has intensified its nationwide efforts to expand and strengthen the Goalball ecosystem across India. Over the past several months, GFI has been actively working on state affiliations with the vision of taking Goalball to every corner of the country and making the sport more accessible to visually impaired athletes and communities.

The federation’s broader objective is to develop Goalball as a community-based sport, ensuring that opportunities are not limited to major cities or established sporting centres. A special focus is being placed on reaching rural and underserved areas, where talented athletes often have limited access to organized para-sports training and competitive platforms.

State Affiliations Remain a Key Priority

The process of state affiliation with GFI is currently ongoing, with the federation inviting eligible state-level organizations and associations to come forward and become part of the national Goalball network.

Organizations interested in state affiliation can directly submit their applications through the official Goalball Federation of India website. The affiliation process is intended to help establish a structured system for Goalball development at the state level and create a stronger pathway for athletes to progress from local participation to state, national and international competitions.

Creating a Nationwide Network of Goalball Academies

Alongside state affiliations, GFI is also focusing on another major initiative—the development of a chain of Goalball academies across India.

These academies are envisioned as dedicated centres where visually impaired athletes can receive regular training, develop their technical skills and gain access to structured sporting opportunities. By creating more training centres in different regions, GFI aims to bring Goalball closer to the communities that need greater access to the sport.

The proposed academy network will also help identify new talent at the grassroots level and provide young athletes with a pathway to develop their abilities through systematic training and competition.

Technical Mentorship by GFI

A key feature of the initiative is the direct technical mentorship of academies by the Goalball Federation of India. GFI aims to support affiliated academies with technical guidance, training standards, coaching development, rules and regulations, referee education and overall sporting development.

This approach will help create greater consistency in the way Goalball is taught and played across different parts of the country while strengthening the technical foundation of the sport.

A Vision for Goalball at Every Corner of India

Through the combined focus on state affiliations, grassroots development and a nationwide academy network, GFI is working towards creating a more accessible and sustainable Goalball ecosystem.

The vision is simple but ambitious: to ensure that a visually impaired athlete, whether living in a major city or a rural village, has an opportunity to discover Goalball, receive proper training and pursue the sport at a competitive level.

GFI encourages eligible organizations, sports professionals, coaches and stakeholders interested in developing Goalball to connect with the federation and contribute to this growing national movement.
