ICC Rejects Pakistan’s Selective Participation in T20 World Cup 2026

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has clearly rejected Pakistan’s proposal of selective participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had indicated plans to play all matches except the high-profile clash against India scheduled for February 15.

In its official statement, the ICC stated that such an approach is “difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event,” where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms and follow the full tournament schedule.

The ICC emphasized that its tournaments are built on the values of sporting integrity, fairness, competitiveness, and consistency, and selective participation goes against the spirit and sanctity of international competitions.

While respecting the role of governments in national policy matters, the ICC noted that this decision is not in the interest of the global game or cricket fans worldwide, including millions of fans in Pakistan itself.

The governing body also urged the PCB to carefully consider the long-term impact of such a stance on Pakistan cricket and the global cricket ecosystem, of which Pakistan is an important member and beneficiary.

The ICC reaffirmed that its top priority remains the successful and smooth conduct of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and expects all member boards, including the PCB, to work towards a mutually acceptable solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.
